Support Midwest Eye-Banks
As an independent, not-for-profit organization, Midwest Eye-Banks depends on outside funding and monetary contributions to achieve our mission to give the gift of sight, of hope, and of knowledge. The Gift of Sight The Eye-Bank helps make the gift of sight possible by bringing together corneal tissue donors and the people for whom a corneal transplant is literally a second chance of sight. Midwest Eye-Banks recovers, evaluates, and distributes thousands of corneas annually for transplant. For those in need who are uninsured and cannot afford surgery, the Eye-Bank will reduce or eliminate its tissue processing fees. This helps to ensure that no one will be turned away when a corneal transplant is needed. The Gift of Hope One of the qualities that distinguishes Midwest Eye-Banks from other eye banks is its commitment to funding scientific research. The Eye-Bank's Eye and Vision Research program provides approximately $100,000 annually to fund peer-reviewed research into the treatment and prevention of vision impairment. Data obtained from this research enable investigators to apply for larger grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other funding agencies. The Gift of Knowledge A commitment to the restoration of sight also extends to public and professional education programs. The Eye-Bank strives to educate people about the ongoing need for eye, organ and tissue donors, and the importance of sharing one's decision to be a donor with family members. The Eye-Bank also commits to eye-injury and eye-disease preventative programs.
